A special effects artist who works on Hollywood blockbusters has created a spooky new range of coloured contact lenses. Film fan Kevin Carter, 39, spends up to two days carefully hand-painting dye onto each lens with a fine brush. He charges £126-£380 for each pair of lenses, which can make wearers look possessed by demons or like a visitor from another planet. The soft contact lenses, which are 55 per cent water, have a fixed clear centre so the wearer can see through the design. Carter wanted to be a make-up artist but fell into his dad's optometry business. He later combined his interests and expertise to start his own business - 9mm SFX, which has been making lenses for films, drama groups and individuals for 10 years.
